This Sunbeam Road racer is extremely well-preserved despite its 78 years of age. It was purchased new from L.E. Chambers Cycles of Rochester by a Mr. Pankhurst, who was a founder member of the Medway Wheelers Cycle Club. He sold it to a local collector of lightweight bicycles, who has also cherished it, as you can see from the photos below. The machine is totally to original specification, with optional white Bluemels celluloid mudguards instead of black. It even retains its original bolt-on Bluemel Prismatic rear reflector, which you can see in the catalogue illustration above; these often snapped off, so to see one still on a bicycle is a good indication that it has been well cared-for during its lifetime.
